Fly Fishing Guide School

Considering becoming a professional fly fishing guide?  You are not alone.  Seems like every week an angler calls, emails, or walks into our shop, inquiring as to what is involved in becoming a fly fishing guide.  The interest is understandable.  Fly fishing guides make a significant income while conducting their services in some of the planet’s most beautiful places.  In addition to passing on the general Montana requirements, paper work involved, and how the guiding program works in our area, we discuss the challenges in becoming a guide.  Inevitably, the conversation turns to Guide Schools and if we offer one?

We looked into the guide schools offered around the West and, although they appear fine, none offered the variety of training we would require of our guides.  We need guides who are competent on any trip we put them on; floating boulder choked rivers, wading meandering meadow streams, conducting five day river camps, or sliding down dam controlled tail-waters.  Guiding in Western Montana demands versatility.  So was born Blackfoot River Outfitters’ Fly Fishing Guide School.   The BRO Guide School aims to impart the skills essential for guides’ success under diverse situations.

Quality fly fishing guides are fast becoming a commodity. Our outfitter and lead instructor’s guiding experience spans 33 years and has rowed boats an equivalent of the circumference of the earth – twice!  Blackfoot River Outfitters Fly Fishing Guide School staff is second to none with decades of cumulative experience.  We maintain an industry leading two student to one instructor ratio.   This 2-1 ratio is all day, every day during our week long school.  Simply, there isn't any competing school that assures such focused, hands on, practical attention.
